Tanz- und Musikretreat Neue Schule Wasserkoog (bei Husum) Pfingsten 26-29.5.2023
At the end of May there is VERY SPECIAL Whitsuntide/Pfingsten Retreat on the North Sea penninsula of Eiderstedt. Not only is this an incredible region with the impressive Wattenmeer (coastal region where the tide carries the water out for miles) but I have a very special project with a very special co-teacher: Assala Ibrahim, the Queen of Iraqi Dance! Assala was born in Basra where she grew up immersed in the Khashaba musical culture. She is an active dance researcher and her clear teaching concepts and unique dance style have made her a very sought-after dance instructor and performer worldwide. In her desire to cultivate authentic Iraqi dance arts, she has documented, reconstructed and clarified traditional dance elements. She hopes to provide future dancers with a solid foundation for creating new and contemporary interpretations of Iraqi music. Understanding the relationship between the past and the present is an esstial part of Assala's teaching and one of the many things that connects us both in our work. I am more than thrilled to offer this intensive retreat in the incredible Neue Schule Wasserkoog in collaboration with Assala! We will be focusing on the dances of the Euphrates River Valley...from it's headwaters in eastern Turkey to it's delta by Basra on the Persian Gulf. Make sure write to me to secure your spot early as places are extremely limited!
